Ingham County, Michigan Inmate Search
An inmate search is an inquiry process done to locate or find out whether an offender is in custody of federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies. These searches may be performed online, via digital platforms or mail requests, or by physically visiting law enforcement agencies in custody of the inmate records. Inmate Records for Ingham County are documents maintained by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, and they focus on the incarceration history of inmates in the Ingham County Jail.
Ingham County has a central county jail, which is managed by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office. Offenders arrested and detained by officers of city police departments like the East Landing Police Department or the Mason Police Department are also placed in holding at the Ingham County Jail. While Police Departments may keep their records of arrests, the county maintains a central online inmate locator.
Performing an inmate search helps the public access the following information: the incarcerated person’s name, aliases, inmate number, date of birth, date of incarceration, visiting schedule, fines and fees, charges (sentenced and unsentenced), court dates, release or transfer information, among others.

An inmate search at the Ingham County Jail may be performed online using the county inmate locator or by visiting the Central Records Division of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office to obtain paper records. The Ingham County Youth Center, on the other hand, does not provide access to its juvenile records, as such records are exempt from public disclosure under state and federal laws.

An inmate search can only give the searcher access to public information. For example, juvenile records are not public records and, as such, cannot be retrieved through an online search.
Ingham County Visitation Rules and Schedules
Families, friends, loved ones, and even professionals (attorneys, medical professionals, social services, and law enforcement personnel) may visit or interview inmates during permitted hours. Visits from families, friends, and loved ones are strictly video visits. Inmates are only allowed 1 free on-site video visit per week. Inmates are allowed to receive video visits daily, but this depends on the class of offender, visitation restrictions, and availability of terminals.
Visitors are encouraged to schedule visits in advance, as priority will be given to those who have appointments and others who arrive early.
On-site visits can occur from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM Mondays to Fridays, with the exception of county and national holidays. Visits may be scheduled online, at the Ingham County Jail Lobby, or at the County Human Services Building. Generally, the charge for remote video visitations is 50 credits per minute (50 cents per minute), and it increases at 15-30 minute intervals, although this may vary per facility.
Visitors must provide the following information or documents at check-in:
- Home address
- Phone number
- Valid driver’s license or other government-issued identification card.
It is important to comply with the Ingham County Jail’s visitation rules; any inappropriate conduct or violation of the rules will result in sanctions for the inmate. Please note that taking photos is prohibited during visitation. If any pictures are discovered, both the inmate and visitors will have their visiting privileges suspended.
